Mmm...Melody

“Without music, life would be a mistake.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche, Twilight of the Idols

My parents introduced me to a wide variety of music. From the Sons of the Pioneers to the Rolling Stones, big band greats like Glenn Miller to the edginess of Bob Dylan. Their music palate was diverse and varied. Our console stereo would play before dawn and music would often end our day. I remember the clicks of 8-tracks, the sound of needle on vinyl, and spindle breaks in over-played cassette tapes.

Music soothes, comforts, and provides company. I can't imagine my day without music. My radio is on all day long at home, even after I leave for work...after all, my plants are still at home and enjoy the tunes as well. Music = stress management. Memories awaken, attention shifts to beat and rhythm, toes tap, and shoulders sway. Melody is a pleasing series of musical notes...what pleases you?

Mmm...Meals

Food is medicine, powerful medicine. Food either nourishes and builds health, or can be the cause of our ills. One of my health heroes is Dr. John McDougall.  After watching the documentary, Forks Over Knives, and reading The China Study I switched to a starch-based vegan diet. I experienced significant health benefits besides weight loss. I lowered my cholesterol, stabilized liver enzymes, stopped using blood pressure medication, managed my inflammatory pain, and I am sleeping better than I have in decades.

Good health is 80-90% diet and the rest is exercise, stress management, and moderate sunshine. Do genetics play a role? Of course. We have control over our health and as the Forks Over Knives documentary points out, the state of your health rests at the tip of your fork. Every day, every meal, every bite, you choose how you feel with the foods you eat. Head to my resource page to learn about how to better nourish yourself. Dine well my friends!

Mmmm...March

This month Thirsty Thursday messages focus on how to create more 'Mmm' in your world. Last month's topics focused on one of my key concepts, Soothe. Can you ever have too much of this good thing?

Today, bring more Mmm to your day by meditating. Meditation harnesses the power of your mind when you slow down, focus, and breath. Check out the link below to guide your practice - free audio segments range from 3 to 19 minutes, and are available in English and Spanish.

Got pain? Spot treat...

For those of us living with chronic conditions, every day may bring a new ache. Peek into my medicine cabinet and you'll see three soothing compounds that I use to manage pestering pain.

Arnica gel: A must-have for any medicine cabinet or first aid kit. Heals bruises, relieves swelling, and minimizes pain.

Epsom salt, in gel form: This blend also contains Arnica plus Aloe Vera gel, quiets muscle soreness and eases arthritis pain.

Bio Oil: Softens and improves the appearance of scar tissue. Relieves itching, tightness, and helps to smooth even deep surgical scars.

I often take one or all with me while traveling, to the gym, or at the office. Do you have a quick spot treatment you'd like to share? Contact me, I'd love to hear your secrets!

Be Well,

Tiffany

Ease tension...

Muscle pain, back ache, and fatigue tip the iceberg of chronic pain.  At times, chronic pain may seem distant, a dull ache.  Other times, the pain sharply raps at the door, demanding our attention.  How do you manage?  Medication may help, and as I mentioned last Thursday, methods such as acupuncture can provide alternate relief.

Another way to ease tension is by stretching.  Increasing flexibility and maintaining muscles that are supple and loose ease pressure and keep us mobile.  Regardless of your limitations, there are stretching exercises for every ability.   Classical Stretch is a program I tune into weekday mornings.  It only takes 25-30 minutes, is taught by a retired ballerina, and is a great start to my day.  Check it out!
