Benefits of Powdered Kombucha

Have you tried Kombucha? I am a late adopter on many levels and while I had heard of Kombucha, the thought of drinking a fermented, carbonated beverage didn’t appeal to me. Let me tell you why I decided to try it. In December of 2024 I had set some ambitious health goals for the current year - and one of those goals included ridding myself of an intestinal parasite that found me on a trip to tour the ruins of Teotihuacan. Kombucha was a solution suggested by one of my healthcare providers and this is what happened after one month of daily use…

  • Weight loss - I dropped 10 pounds in 4 weeks and have kept it off

  • Decreased inflammation - goodbye to swollen ankles and under eye puffiness

  • Improved gut health - the intestinal parasite was finally banished

  • Increased energy - mornings are already my favorite time of day and by extending my morning fast with a Kombucha blend I feel even more energized

After achieving these results so quickly I decided to incorporate Kombucha into my daily meal plan to maintain them…though I wanted a more affordable alternative that would also travel well.

The challenges I encountered with this beverage were that…

  • Kombucha is an expensive product, especially when purchasing single sized servings (I explored a variety of brands and flavors initially)

  • Glass containers require extra time and effort to follow responsible recycling practices (environmental health matters and my plant based meal plan allows me to reduce my carbon footprint)

  • Buying larger containers of Kombucha to reduce cost - take up extra space, and I have a tiny kitchen

  • Brew my own? Again…small space, time, and effort

  • Significant problem for me is the carbonation, I just don’t like it.

An Amazon search led me to a powdered version of Kombucha created by Essenzefruits. The cost is minimal - package prices vary from $14 - $18 for 30 servings and best of all…I control the added ingredients. The packages are compact and easily fit in a carry on. I have encountered no problems with TSA both locally and abroad (I took this product on a cruise to Canada and on an extended vacation to visit Tokyo this spring).

Curious and want to try it? The mixture blends easily in water alone and has been a delicious, refreshing addition to extend my morning fast. I continue to follow The Starch Solution and eat when I am hungry, dine until I am satisfied, and stop eating before I am stuffed. Check out my Kombucha recipe below…

The blend that tastes best for me is a simple recipe I put together using a 16 oz. shaker bottle. If you’re a fan of Kombucha (or not), try this mixture and see how you feel…and of course, modify the recipe to suit your taste and preferences.

Tiffany’s Morning Kombucha Recipe

  • One scoop Kombucha Powder

  • 1/2 c. brewed black tea

  • 2 T. apple cider vinegar, always use a brand that includes ‘The Mother’

  • 1/3 c. low sugar fruit juice

  • Cold water and/or ice as needed

To make, add each ingredient, in order, to the shaker bottle and finish by adjusting the amount of water or other ingredients to taste. You can enjoy the beverage warm or hot if you like. Shake well - the powder isn’t gritty as long as I add the brewed warm tea as the first liquid on top of the powder. Optional ingredients that I sometimes include are a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, citrus zest, muddled mint sprigs, or I will substitute green tea for variety.

Dine Well! ~Tiffany
