My Osher Continuing Ed course, Changing Your Brain for Spiritual and Personal Growth assigned two class books…The Power of Neuroplasticity, by Shad Helmstetter, PhD. and How God Changes Your Brain, by Andrew Newberg, MD & Mark Robert Waldman.

In chapter 2 of ‘How God Changes Your Brain’ a research study of meditation using the mantra sa ta na ma was discussed. This mantra was taught to me by my Reiki Master (Dr. Carol Wilson) in 2008 and I had forgotten all about it! As I state on my home page…everything happens for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. As I shelter amid the pandemic and educate myself I find it delightful that this course is guiding me home to meditative practices to help me during this time of anxiety, stress, and fear.

Today I found this delightful resource on YouTube to guide me and YOU into a calmer state of mind. In the Newberg/Waldman text it is suggested to follow this 11-12 minute meditation (known as Kirtan Kriya - a Sanskrit term meaning song to a specific set of movements) every day shortly after waking in the morning. Join me and let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. There are both long and short versions - plus this method is used by The Alzheimer’s Foundation to improve brain function.
